Welcome to the Vajrayana Guru Rinpoche Buddhist Tour in Nepal, consisting of three weeks-21 days. It tries to cover almost the major sites, where Guru Rinpoche meditated, attained enlightenment, received immortality, and spread his teachings. On this tour, you will experience the devotion of Guru Rinpoche and his journey from India to Nepal, and finally to Tibet. The tour also includes the oldest monastery in the world- 8th Century Lo Gekar Monastery in Mustang. Welcome to the most delightful Buddhist tour in Nepal.

The tour is a legendary package for the pilgrimage seekers of Vajrayana Buddhism with those who would like to conduct research about Buddhism and its influence. The tour kicks off from Kathmandu, exploring the UNESCO-listed monumental sites. Swayambhunath Stupa and Boudhanath Stupa are Buddhist sites, whereas Pashupatinath is a Hindu site. However, there are famous Tilopa and Naropa caves, where the Guru of Saint Milarepa meditated.

An abundant number of Vajrayana Buddhist sites in Nepal open the doorway to spirituality. In eastern Nepal, there are some renowned sites, including Namobuddha Monastery, Maratika Cave Halesi, and Yarinak Cave. In the western part of Kathmandu, there are several sites like Chumik Changhup- Daman, Chungsi Cave, Luri Gompa, Dhakmar Cliff, and the oldest monastery in the world- Lo Gekar Monastery (aka Ghar Gompa) in Mustang are wonderful.

Some of the touring sites in this itinerary are not related to the Guru Rinpoche Vajrayana Tour, they come along the way and are great to explore. The tour requires permits and paperwork, which will be managed by Nepal Kameleon Holidays, along with the arrangement of transportation, driver, and guide.

    Transportation for the Tour

To operate the entire trip with the same vehicle, we use only 4WD jeep (Land Cruiser/Scorpio). It is a suitable form of transportation, especially in the off-roading part, Himalayas, and steep uphill roads.

    Food and Accommodation

Food items vary as per location. Generally, it will be from the menu, including typical Nepali cuisine: Dal Bhat (rice, lentil, pickle, curry), Chapati, noodle, Mo:Mo (dumplings), Indian, Chinese, and continental food items.

Regarding accommodation, we provide 3-star accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara as they are easily available.

    • Kathmandu- 3-star hotel
    • Pokhara- 3 star hotel
    • Mustang- Clean lodge with attached bathroom and hot shower
    • Maratika- 3-star category hotel/resort
    • Daman: resort
    • Yarinak: clean lodge

    Best Time

Some of the parts of this tour go up to 3800-3900 meters altitude, thus mid-winter is not recommended. Except for monsoon and mid-winter, you can enjoy the tour throughout the year.

    Spring (March-April-May)

Spring is wonderful for this tour. The days are great with clear skies and nights are good in terms of weather. It will not be too hot or cold. Spring is the season of flowers like rhododendrons. So, the views become majestic. May is comparatively hotter than March and April, but the views look so excellent in May. On the other hand, the Mustang tour in May is just fabulous.

    Autumn (September-October-November)

Autumn is another delightful season for traveling in Nepal. It is a time: when the monsoon will be gone and winter will be a bit far. Days are warmer, and cool morning and evening. The views of the Himalayas and hilly region look so wonderful in Autumn. Autumn is the festival season in Nepal, so major festivals are celebrated in this season.

    Common Faqs (Updating)

I am a solo traveler. Can you organize this tour for me?

The tour can be organized for a solo traveler too. However, Mustang doesn't allow a solo traveler. So, you need to be at least two people in a group. This is beneficial for you in terms of cost, and trip fun. To generate a Mustang Permit, we issue it connecting with other people.

    Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes. Although the original itinerary is 21 days and 20 nights, we can check your personal request of trip- to customize the itinerary and cost. The trip becomes more affordable excluding the Mustang part due to the permit and transportation costs.

What type of lodge will it be in the mountain?

In the Yarinak tour, there is only one hotel available, which has clean rooms, but still, it will be basic. If you want a bit of luxurious accommodation, you can stay at Dhulikhel, and drive to Temal the next day. You can drive there, explore, and drive back to Kathmandu.

Regarding the Mustang section, you will get hotels/lodges with clean rooms, attached bathrooms, and hot showers. They are comfortable enough, but not as luxurious as in the city areas.

    Will the driver drive well?

The driver will be experienced and professional on the routes mentioned above. They drive slowly and responsibly.

What about the flight if I am bored with only driving?

Flight options are available on the route, Kathmandu-Pokhara-Kathmandu and Pokhara-Jomsom-Pokhara routes. But the overland fun is quite stunning. Please let us know if you want a flight option on available routes.

    Can I meet Rinpoche?

Depending on the situation, we will try to organize a meeting with Rinpoche in any monastery among the given names in the itinerary.

Will there be any dress code on the tour?

Not really. But a spiritual tour is always a blessing, so it's better to wear a dress that will not offend monks and meditation precticioners.

In the footsteps of Padmasambhava: Namo Buddha, Yarinak and Halesi (Maratika)

I travelled alone and for the first time to Nepal in the second half of August 2025 for 14 days. The theme of the trip was to visit the most important places from the spiritual and mystical point of view of the capital Kathmandu and the surrounding valleys, with particular regard to the places related to the arrival and spread of Vajrayana Buddhism.

One of these was to arrive in Halesi, over 200km east of Kathmandu, to visit and meditate in the caves of Maratika and Manjushree. In the search for an agency to organize this part of the trip, I arrived at Nepal Kameleon of Mr. Khatiwada. Of the various contacts, she was the only one to respond clearly and quickly. We agreed easily within a few hours for the Namo Buddha, Yarinak, and Halesi (Maratika) itinerary to be done in 4 days and three nights with a jeep and driver. On the day of my arrival in Kathmandu, I met Mr. Kathiwada, with whom I had a very pleasant and long chat on the main theme of this trip, addressed with much competence on the historical and religious aspects of the great Indo-Tibetan traditions. Departure the next day, and although it was not provided for in the agreements, Mr. Kathiwada, however, accompanied me as a guide for the first day at the stops of Namo Buddha and Yarinak. Excellent experience and perfectly successful throughout its duration.

I thank and strongly recommend this agency in general, but especially for the specific qualification in the enormous spiritual heritage present in Nepal. Before returning, I met again Mr. Kathiwada for a final greeting during which, together with her little daughter, we went to the Teej festival in Thamel Durbar Square on August 26. Again, he was helpful, open, and witty on every subject. A heartfelt thank you and goodbye.

      Guru Rinpoche Pilgrimage and Meditation

First of all, I would like to thank Nepal Kameleon Holidays for organizing our tour through different Guru Rinpoche meditation caves. I didn't have a specific idea about these caves. Initially, I only knew Maratika Cave. Thank God, we communicated a lot and found out about these impressive caves. Our program went like this:

First we did Namobuddha and Yarinak Cave and stayed overnight somewhere on the way to Maratika Cave. Second day, we visited Maratika Cave, Lower Cave, Manjushree Cave, Naga Cave, and the surroundings. Meditating in these caves filled with wonderful energy us.

Then we came back to Kathmandu on the 4th day. The next day, we did Pharping Asura Cave, Yangleshoed Cave and explored the surroundings. As we wanted rest, it was the best choice for us.

After that, we went to Chumik Changchup. This is an amazing place, located out of nowhere. The pristine nature is out of imagination.

Our another part of the trip is equally magnificent. We drove to Lower Mustang, where we visited some monasteries in Marpha, Kagbeni and nearby. The newly built Bon Monastery near Kagbeni is the most delightful. We got to chance to explore the Bon Po culture, which existed before Tibetan Buddhism. Another monastery is near the Dhumba Lake.

We four adults wnjoyed this trip beyond our imagination. Of course we had some difficulties due to the heavy traffic on the way, but everything was in the hand of the God. We were provided amazing service from the company. Bhanu, who has an abundant knowledge about the trip, culture and history guided us ans we are so glad about that. We are planning for Upper Mustang next time as we were out of budget and time for this time.

      Striking Yarinak Cave and Maratika

I would say, this trip remained the best of my lifetime. I was having a difficult time personally, so I was looking for a peaceful trip. I was traveling as a solo female traveler and I understood this trip was going to be a different experience than a usual sightseeing tours in the cities.

I found these caves- Yarinak Cave and Maratika Cave exclusively amazing and powerful. I meditated in the caves and tried to relaxed myself in the tranquil setting. Manoj was my guide and took me to these places. I gave time more to myself because I had read all about it from Kameleon Page.

So, for a calm and peaceful trip following the footstep of Guru Rinpoche, one should experience this Guru Rinpoche Tour in Nepal and of course traveling with Nepal Kamelon Holidays is highly recommended. Also, don't forget to have a good communication with Mr. Khatiwada beforehand. He loves to provide you the required information.

      Highly recommended!

My experience in Nepal was amazing, largely thanks to Bhanu. He was very flexible and extremely accommodating and helpful. We were able to create an itinerary that was tailored to me. Bhanu also made sure that everything went according to the plan, and went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. He came with me for the most part, but when he wasn't, he was very responsive.

He is also very eager to share his knowledge about the country, its history and culture, and you can tell he is very passionate about it.

I would definitely recommend traveling with Nepal Kameleon Holidays.
