Luri Gompa Monastery, aka Tashi Kabum, is an impressive cave monastery located in Lo Gekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality-04 Upper Mustang. It is historically significant and associated with the tantric Buddhism-Ningmapa sect of Buddhism.
Built in the 12th Century, Luri Gompa Monastery is situated at an elevation of about 4000 meters above sea level, on the cliff, neighboring Yara and Ghara villages. This is a surprising spiritual destination that the monastery is located inside three caves. There is a staircase to climb along with the wooden to get into the cave monastery. The main part of the monastery and the meditation place of the Lama are inside the cave. The chorten of Luri gompa is a natural one.
Who Takes Care of the Luri Cave Gompa?

Luri gompa has a fascinating wall painting and has space to rotate around inside the cave. The paintings and craftsmanship were done in the 15th century. The Luri Cave Gompa (Tashi Kabum) has wall paintings, olden spiritual books, olden Thankas, and a statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava).
After getting married to a Bhutanese girl, the King of Lo built the Luri Gompa Monastery to make her happy. Another myth is that a monk named Kunchang Jhalu, who was born in Yara village and received the blessing of being able to fly, had received knowledge from meditation inside the cave. The summit of the cliff on the other direction is regarded as the abode of Kunchang Jhalu Lama.
There is another monastery a bit below the Luri Gompa, near the Peyung Khola (stream). Both monasteries will host ritual puja. The accommodation facilities at Yara and Ghara villages are available for travelers.
To reach Luri Gompa, you need to travel on the Jomsom Lomanthang Highway and reach Tsarang-Charang village, drive right following the Dhya Khola, Surkhang, and after Ghara, you will reach this amazing monastery on the cliff- Luri Gompa (aka Tashi Kabum).
